Liability and financial responsibility are not the same thing, but one is an answer to the other. Liability auto insurance is a great way to prove you are financially responsible for your vehicle, but so is posting a surety bond if your state allows.

These articles are here to clarify for our customers their various rights and obligations when they purchase Infinity car insurance from us in there specific state of residence.

SR-22: financial Responsibility Insurance Policies

An SR-22 auto insurance policy is a special type of liability insurance policy that represents a contract between a risky-driver, an insurance provider, and transportation and safety authorities in the driver’s state of residence.

Basically an SR-22 is a way for the DMV or Department of Transportation in your state to obligate you to purchase car insurance, and also monitor the status of that auto insurance to prevent cancellation, lapse, lack of payment, and ultimately- any driving being done without proper auto insurance.

There are many crimes for which conviction can mean the burden of purchasing SR-22 insurance coverage, but the most common ones involve D.U.I. or D.W.I. and are punishable with jail-time, thousands of dollars in fines, and license suspension and revocation for repeat offenders.

An SR-22 policy will be required to meet the same state minimum auto liability insurance requirements, but it will cost more, and have stricter rules about bill payment and information-reporting. The moment your policy lapses for any reason, the DMV or Department of Transportation will be notified so that law enforcement will immediately be able to apprehend you for driving without insurance.
